Advocacy for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) is critical for fostering environments that reflect a range of diverse perspectives. Various types of diversity can include gender, national origin, scientific expertise, and race/ethnicity. It has been shown that by ensuring diverse voices are heard and valued, we improve effectiveness of outcomes and allow for more innovative solutions to be put forward. This educational session will address the following learning objectives: (1) Understand why representation matters when selecting experts for scientific committees, recruitment committees and panels. (2) Gain strategies for advocating in local, national and international settings. (3) Be able to explain how representative selections lead to more expertise in different fields.
