Two Medical Physics Residency Positions in Calgary

The Medical Physics Department in Calgary, Alberta at Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre invites applications for two available Resident positions (two-year term) in the CAMPEP-accredited Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program, starting on September 1, 2026. This program is offered jointly as a University of Calgary Post-Doctoral Diploma in Radiation Oncology Physics (https://www.ucalgary.ca/radiation-oncology-physics).
The Department of Medical Physics currently provides clinical physics services at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary. Approximately 3500 patients per year receive radiotherapy on one of the 10 Varian linear accelerators. The Arthur Child supports active clinical programs including SRS, SBRT, IGRT, SGRT, TBI, paediatric RT, LDR and HDR brachytherapy in an integrated suite with MR imaging. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including 10 Varian Linacs, 2 MR-Linacs, and extensive simulation capabilities (CT, PET-CT and 2 MRI) providing full integration of MR technology in precision radiation medicine and care. The Arthur Child is a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre providing cancer services for Calgary, Southern Alberta, and specialty provincial programs.
The two successful applicants will join the Post-Doctoral Diploma (Residency Program) and complete the two-year structured program intended to provide practical training in Radiation Oncology Physics and preparation for the membership examination of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine. The program is structured to focus on providing residents the skills, knowledge, and experiences to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment.
The Medical Physics Resident requires a PhD in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP accredited graduate program or completion of a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program. Applicants are required to have completed their PhD degree or submit a letter stating they have a PhD defense date set formally with their university before the application deadline. A strong commitment to the highest clinical standards, and highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills are required for this position. The successful candidates will join a growing Medical Physics Department of almost 50 team members, including 21 physicists and two senior residents.
