BC Cancer – Kamloops is seeking applications for a permanent, full-time Medical Physicist position.

This is a rare opportunity to join a team on the ground floor, and contribute to the building, initial commissioning, and ongoing operation of a brand new cancer centre. The successful applicant will initially join a team of 13 medical physicists and support local operations in Kelowna, while also preparing to launch a new centre in Kamloops. When the Kamloops Cancer Centre is operationally ready, this candidate will permanently relocate with a team of physicists to Kamloops to provide services at that centre.

The Kamloops Cancer Centre, located on the Royal Inland Hospital Campus, will house three linear accelerators and one CT simulator, with on-site dosimetry support, service technologists and physics assistants. Prior to opening, the candidate will have the opportunity to work in Kelowna with cutting-edge technology and research. The Kelowna team provides support for 5 linear accelerators, including 4 TrueBeams (2 SRS capable), and Canada’s largest Ethos adaptive radiotherapy program. The centre has an extensive brachytherapy program, which includes HDR treatment capability for prostate, skin, and complex gynecological targets.

While in Kelowna, the candidate will have opportunities to join in existing education and research opportunities. The team helps to support a provincial CAMPEP medical physics residency training program with 11 residents spread across the province. Adjunct academic appointments are available at UBC Okanagan, which is home to a CAMPEP accredited graduate program in Medical Physics. Through this program, physicists have access to graduate students, teaching opportunities, and research partnerships with other departments at the university. It will be important for the candidate to build these collaborations while in Kelowna, to support future research and education opportunities for the Kamloops Centre.
