About the Opportunity

The Chief Medical Physicist is responsible professionally to the Head of the Radiation Therapy Service and Department of Radiation Oncology and administratively to the Senior Director and Senior Medical Director of the Cancer Care Program for all aspects of medical physics service, education and research. The Chief Medical Physicist holds a key mandate of developing and directing graduate education, research and development in the Medical Physics department. In coordination with the Director of Clinical Medical Physics, the Chief Medical Physicist is responsible in ensuring that radiation therapy is delivered in an accurate, effective and safe manner using contemporary national and international methods and standards. The Chief Medical Physicist holds an academic appointment, ordinarily in the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, with cross-appointment to the Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science.

The Chief Medical Physicist position is a permanent, fulltime position on Long Term Assignment with a renewable term of 5 years.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

* PhD or DSc with specialization in Medical Physics
* Membership in the College of Physicists in Medicine (MCCPM) or a Fellow (preferred) of the Canadian College of Physicists (FCCPM) designations or the
equivalent
* Seven years of experience as a radiation oncology medical physicist required
* Three years of leadership/management experience including preparation and administration of budgets, personnel supervision, and program planning
* A strong academic background including a significant publication record in medical physics
* Eligibility for appointment as faculty in the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University
* In addition to the knowledge required for the certification process, the Chief Medical Physicist must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and
interpersonal skills, be adaptable, show initiative and a sense of responsibility, and have good decision making and teaching skills
* Demonstrated leadership skills
* Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly with a renewable term of 5 years
