COMP Gold Medal 2025
Congratulations to the 2025 recipient of the prestigious COMP Gold Medal Award, Dr. Ting-Yim Lee!
Dr. Lee’s extraordinary contributions to the field of medical physics have profoundly shaped the landscape of medical imaging in Canada and beyond.
Dr. Lee’s career spans decades of groundbreaking research and innovation. Since his recruitment to the Department of Radiology at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in 1988, he has been instrumental in elevating medical imaging physics through visionary leadership, cutting-edge research, and mentorship. His contributions to the Lawson Imaging Research Program (LIRP) have been transformative, establishing a world-class medical physics team devoted equally to imaging services and pioneering research.
Among his most celebrated achievements is the development of CT Perfusion technology, a world-first in 2000 that has revolutionized stroke diagnosis and treatment. His leadership helped secure a $30 million CFI initiative in 2006, introducing hybrid imaging to Canada—including the nation’s first PET/CT and PET/MRI systems. His expertise in kinetic analysis modeling has turned contrast-enhanced CT into a powerful functional imaging modality, expanding its applications to oncology, cardiology, and neurology.
Dr. Lee’s dedication extends beyond scientific innovation. His mentorship has shaped the careers of numerous medical physicists, researchers, and clinicians. To date, he has trained 16 MSc and 26 PhD students, along with 14 post-doctoral fellows, continuously fostering excellence in Canadian medical physics.
His leadership has amplified the role of medical physicists across Canada, earning international recognition and enhancing the profession’s stature. Dr. Lee’s unwavering commitment, vision, and innovation make him an exemplary recipient of the COMP Gold Medal Award.
Join us in celebrating Dr. Ting-Yim Lee's remarkable contributions to medical physics at the COMP Annual Scientific Meeting in June! Don't miss the opportunity to hear the Gold Medal talk on Friday, June 6th.
