COMP Early-career Clinical Academic Award
Established in 2026, the Early-career Clinical Academic Award recognizes medical physicists practicing in the clinic at the early stages of their careers who are advancing patient care through research, innovation, and scholarly communication. The intention of this award is to stimulate clinical innovations and create a culture of sustained excellence to advance patient care through academic achievement. (This aligns with COMP’s mission of advancing patient care by fostering innovation and research in clinical practice and promoting excellence in Medical Physics.)
Following residency, early career clinical medical physicists faced immediate responsibilities of patient care and integration into new clinic roles. This non-monetary award puts a spotlight on those who have successfully bridged clinical excellence with scholarly scientific work. The award winner will receive a certificate and registration covered by COMP.
The award is judged based on scientific publications (with considerations given to authorship position) for early career clinical physicists within 10 years of their PhD, accounting for leave of absences. Application for this award is by invitation only. Each year, the committee will use COMP members’ publications captured by Sosido, year of PhD and/or MCCPM to screen and invite applications. Invited applicants are required to confirm clinical responsibilities (greater than 50% full time equivalent), indicate leave of absence, and provide a list of publications for consideration.
This award will be given annually at the COMP annual scientific meeting.
