Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Department Head of Imaging Physics and Radiation Protection, the Imaging Physicist will assist with the development and provision of Medical Imaging and Radiation Protection Services for the Province of Manitoba.
The Imaging Physicist (X-ray) supports all x-ray diagnostic imaging modalities (radiography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, and mammography) across Manitoba, contributing to excellence in patient care by:

• Optimizing medical imaging procedures to achieve diagnostic quality at low dose, Developing, implementing, and overseeing quality control programs,
• Supporting the compliance of diagnostic imaging departments with regulatory requirements, Advising on the purchase of imaging equipment,
• Providing expertise in radiation safety and radiation protection,
• Educating health care professionals, students, residents, and patients in radiological physics, and conducting academic and clinical research in medical imaging physics.

Our work is multidisciplinary, and we contribute our expertise to many programs in the health care sector, including diagnostic imaging, surgery, dentistry, obstetrics, cardiology, cancer screening, urology, speech and language pathology and orthopedics.

Qualifications: Education
• Graduate degree in medical physics or equivalent discipline (M.Sc.)

Experience
• 2 years of post-graduate degree experience in diagnostic x-ray imaging

Skills and Abilities
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Strong track record of excellent performance in collaborative, team environments
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously

Preferred
• Ph.D. degree in medical physics or equivalent discipline
• CAMPEP-accredited graduate degree or equivalent
• Technical experience with diagnostic x-ray imaging systems, including:
o Identification of appropriate technical specifications to meet clinical needs,
o Hands-on testing,
o Development and implementation of QC programs, and
o Review and optimization of clinical protocols in collaboration with clinicians.
• Teaching experience, or interest in teaching
• Experience in conducting and supervising academic or clinical research.

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations
• Intention and eligibility to be certified with the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (or equivalent) or a willingness to become eligible

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
• Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings and be able to lift and carry items
• Must have a valid driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for occasional travel within the province
• Availability and willingness to travel for work and perform duties outside of normal working hours, on an occasional basis.
