Traveling required - 2 acute care hospitals and 4 community hospitals on PEI, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Salary: $51.61 – $64.52 per hour (as per Labor Market Adjustment)


The medical physicist is responsible for providing clinical physics support to Diagnostic Imaging Services at 2 acute care hospitals and 4 community hospitals on PEI. The medical physicist leads the DI quality control and radiation safety programs and is the Radiation Safety Officer for nuclear medicine.

Responsibilities include:
Ensuring that all activities involving radiation-emitting devices are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.

Performing shielding design calculations for new rooms and evaluating existing lead shielding thickness

On-going evaluation of imaging equipment performance, performing acceptance testing

Participating in the selection, installation, and evaluation of new equipment

Providing radiation dose calculations and risk evaluation for patients and staff

Investigating and performing follow-up of radiation safety-related incidents.

Providing education and training in radiation safety to staff and physicians.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Medical Physics or Health & Radiation Physics or equivalent education and experience.

Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine Mammography Certification is required.

Demonstrated ability to perform QC testing for x-ray, CT, ultrasound, BMD and MRI.

Knowledge and understanding of hospital radiation safety programs including Nuclear Medicine.


Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience is required.

A good previous work and attendance record.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others

Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
