This 1.5-hour virtual session will begin with introductions to each panelist and their training journey, followed by a moderated discussion exploring topics such as medical physics education and clinical training in different countries, the challenges and advantages of various training pathways, career opportunities, and key differences in practice around the world. The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A, where attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage directly with the panelists.

  • Dr. Wayne Beckam is currently a retired medical physicist with a distinguished career spanning New Zealand (1986 - 1989), Australia (1989 - 1998) and Canada (1998 - 2025). He is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) and was awarded the designation of Fellow of the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (FCOMP) in 2013. Originally from New Zealand, Dr. Beckham began his career there before relocating to Canada. He has had roles as follows: Adjunct Professor University of Victoria Physics and Astronomy Department, Founding Director of UVic CAMPEP Accredited Medical Physics Graduate program (2003 - 2023), Director BC Cancer CAMPEP Accredited Medical Physics Residency program (2023 - 2025). Board Member CCPM (2002 - 2009) Registrar CCPM (2003 - 2009), Board Member of CAMPEP (2010 - 2015), Vice President (2013) and then President and Chairman of CAMPEP (2014 - 2015). Vice President COMP (2018 - 2020), President COMP (2020-2022), Past President COMP (2022-2024). His major research focus involved application of leading edge technology to improving treatment outcomes (either increased cure rates or decreased complication rates) for radiation therapy patients, often involving patients being treated in ethics approved research protocols designed to assess patient outcome.
  • Dr. Daniella Fabri Genskowsky is a Medical Physicist from Valparaíso, Chile, with degrees from the University of Chile, Heidelberg University, and the Medical University of Vienna, where she specialized in medical image post-processing. She has nearly 20 years of clinical, research, and leadership experience in radiation protection, medical imaging, and quality assurance, including work at the University of Chile, Clínica Alemana de Santiago, and Clínica Las Condes. She also contributed to the IAEA as a Fellow, co-founded the Chilean Medical Physics Society (SOFIMECH), and completed postdoctoral research funded by FONDECYT. Since 2032, she has been a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Florida’s Department of Radiology, focusing on Interventional Radiology and CT imaging, and since 2024, she has continued her work in the Department of Neurosurgery, fostering interdisciplinary research across Neurosurgery, Radiology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Biomedical Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine.
  • Dr. Geetha Menon is a Senior Medical Physicist at the Cross Cancer Institute and a Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She holds both an MSc and a PhD in Physics from the University of Alberta. Her focus is on translational research mainly women’s cancers, especially gynecological and breast, ranging from basic cell studies to the application of artificial intelligence for improving treatment outcomes. She is a Fellow of the CCPM and COMP and a proud member of the COMP Women’s Committee.
  • Dr. Leila Ounalli serves as Associate Professor at the Centre National des Sciences et Technologies Nucléaires (CNSTN) in Tunisia, where she bridges fundamental physics with applied medical physics. Her academic path reflects both depth and breadth: a Habilitation in Physics from the University of Tunis El Manar, a PhD in particle physics and a Master’s degree in Quantum Physics from the University of Neuchâtel, followed by a Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics at ETH Zürich. She further strengthened her expertise in radiation protection through specialized training at IRA‑CHUV Lausanne. Her research interests span the spectrum of medical applications of ionizing radiation, from radiation safety and therapy to nuclear medicine and advanced imaging modalities such as CT, SPECT, and PET. Drawing on extensive experience in both academic teaching and applied nuclear sciences, she combines rigorous quantitative analysis with a clear commitment to advancing health physics. At the core of her work lies a focus on ensuring that ionizing radiation is used safely and effectively in healthcare, balancing innovation with patient protection.
  • Dr. Kimi Bin Yang serves as a Senior Medical Physicist at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, specializing in cutting-edge radiotherapy technologies such as MR-guided radiotherapy, Proton therapy, and CyberKnife. With a Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Hong Kong and a B.Sc. from Nanjing University, Dr. Yang brings over a decade of expertise to the field, driving advancements in adaptive therapy, motion management, and dosimetry. A Certified Medical Physicist accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Physicists in Medicine (HKIPM), he actively contributes to the community as Secretary of HKIPM, Education and Training Committee Member at AFOMP, and Scientific Committee Member of PTCOG-AO. As an Honorary Assistant Professor at HKU and Adjunct Assistant Professor at PolyU, Dr. Yang dedicates efforts to training and academic initiatives, fostering education across universities and professional institutions. His scholarly contributions are widely recognized, with publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international forums.
