Student Events

About

The COMP Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is the premier conference for medical physics in Canada, providing a unique opportunity for students to learn more about the field, meet other trainees from across the country, and network with experienced medical physicists. We are thrilled to present a full day of student-centered events at this year’s COMP Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Regina, Saskatchewan. We have a diverse range of events and programming which you can read more about below. Be sure to check out the Science Spoken Succinctly (S3) Competition and the IDEA Student Travel Award for award and funding opportunities, and stay tuned to this page for the latest updates on student events at the ASM!

For any questions about student events at the ASM, please contact Student Council Co-chairs Aly Khalifa (aly.khalifa@mail.utoronto.ca) and Morgan Maher (morgan.maher@mail.mcgill.ca).

Note: Student events start the morning of Wednesday June 5 at 9:30 AM, before the main conference programming. Be sure to plan your travel and accommodation accordingly so that you don’t miss out!

Young Professionals Workshop (YPW)

Experts in the medical physics field will share their insight on how to advance your career in medical physics. The YPW is followed by a special networking event where you can make one-on-one connections with the presenters. Check back closer to the ASM for the theme of this year’s YPW and list of speakers.

Science Spoken Succinctly Competition

Enter the Science Spoken Succinctly (S3) competition to develop valuable research communication skills and compete for the cash prize! Limited to one slide and three minutes, competitors must demonstrate the significance of their research to a non-scientific audience. S3 is all about communication, conveying your research in an engaging way to those outside of the field of Medical Physics! For more information and application instructions, please visit the COMP website.

Application Deadline: May 10th at 11:59 pm EST

Thank you to our sponsors Limbus AI and MedScint for supporting this event.

Canadian Medical Physics Residency Fair

The Canadian Medical Physics Residency Fair aims to provide a platform for prospective applicants to learn about the medical physics residency programs available in Canada. Each residency program will host a booth and a representative will be available to provide information about their program. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to meet with COMP Student Council or Resident Subcommittee members to learn about available leadership positions and discover networking events within the student community. This is a great opportunity to learn, network, and clarify any questions you may have about Canadian residencies.

Student Night Out

Date: Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 8pm

Medical Physics is a small field, and before you know it, your fellow students will transform into a professional network across Canada and beyond! The Student Night Out provides an informal setting to meet and get to know other students within the medical physics community.

Stay tuned for more details on what we have planned for this year!

Student Awards

IDEA Travel Award

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Travel Award to provide financial assistance for students who are members of equity-denied groups and that demonstrate financial need to attend the COMP Annual Scientific Meeting. The IDEA Student Travel Award aims to inspire the next generation of medical physicists by providing the opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students the chance to gain valuable exposure, experience, and mentorship from medical physicists and other established professionals in medical physics. For more information about the award, please visit the main webpage for the IDEA Student Travel Award.

Application Deadline: April 15, 2024
